We are looking for an experienced Traffic Engineering Supervisor II/Urban Highway Manager to join our Division 5 team.
In this role you will:
- Develop and execute road maintenance and operations management strategies for Division 5 urban highway facilities.
- Working closely with the Department of Transportation Systems Operations statewide, it oversees Department 5’s Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) program to facilitate mobility through IMAP patrols, incident remediation, and large-scale event coordination.
- Develop snow and ice bare pavement plans for urban highway systems in Wake and Durham counties.
- Recommend allocation and management of resources for maintenance, preservation and restoration of urban highways.
- Coordinates with departmental maintenance engineers and assistant departmental maintenance engineers in the development, prioritization and selection of maintenance, conservation and restoration projects.
- Monitor and identify urban highway trends.
- Plans and leads the implementation of new initiatives and retention strategies, including troubleshooting implementation issues with internal and external customers, in collaboration with departments, asset management and MOST groups.
- Maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.
- Establish a positive line of communication between technicians, engineers and contractors.
what to bring
- You are an expert in road maintenance, preservation, restoration, design and construction of interstate/highway facilities such as ITS systems, paving, drainage, safety systems and vegetation.
- Project management expertise in directing multiple projects and scheduling/directing multiple work staff.
- Experience using specialized engineering skills and knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve highway maintenance issues.
- Financial project management experience tracking cost expenditures in account systems for multiple large scale projects.
- Problem-solving customer service experience, such as explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Management experience overseeing 3 or more full-time employees, contractors or consultants.
- Uses verbal and nonverbal skills to present non-routine or moderately complex technical and/or programmatic concepts and related facts in a clear, concise, organized, and compelling manner Communication skills to express yourself.
- Good eyesight (glasses acceptable) to use inspection equipment, read plan details, make accurate measurements on site, and inspect road and structural components.
- Ability to work at height above water or traffic.
- Agility in climbing bridge substructures and superstructures, traversing slopes, and walking on uneven ground.
- Power to lift 50 lbs.
education and experience
- Bachelor of Engineering, and
- 4+ years of progressive experience, and
- 2+ years of directing experience.again
