Engineer II – Field Inspector.
This work includes inspection and documentation to ensure that projects permitted by the permit department comply with permit conditions and county regulations. The field inspector’s duties primarily include ensuring that permitted work complies with county regulations regarding stormwater mitigation requirements and county road standards. Typical permits assigned to an Engineer II are grading permits, commercial development permits, and road improvement project permits. Work is performed in both office and field environments and involves daily contact with staff, public officials, developers, contractors, property owners, the public, and interest groups.
Engineer II – field inspector You will be expected to work in an independent capacity commensurate with your current experience, while receiving a reasonable level of guidance and direction from senior positions. Incumbent companies must make recommendations and engineering decisions to ensure the project meets the requirements of adopted permit conditions, county regulations, and best management practices. Engineer II – Field Inspector We may also apply land development principles when reviewing submissions to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience designing or reviewing civil engineering plans for code compliance.
- Applied knowledge of surface water design manuals and road standards used by governments.
- Ability to quickly relate codes, official rules, and ordinances to observed building site conditions.
- Skills in reading and interpreting engineering plans and reports, specifications, technical maps, and other engineering documents.
- Demonstrates ability to apply project management principles and practices.
- Demonstrated skills using common desktop workflow tools including, but not limited to, the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.). Ability to analyze proposals using engineering software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including delivering training and creating presentations.
- Skilled in analytical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, and consensus building among others.
- Skills in providing excellent customer service.
- Skills in handling multiple competing priorities and producing high quality, detailed work within limited time frames.
- Skills in working effectively and collaboratively with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
Desired qualifications:
- Experience with local government permit processing and regulations.
- Demonstrated skills in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) systems.
- Knowledge of electronic review of construction documents.
Requirements:
- An offer of employment is subject to successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination.
- Must have a valid Washington State driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle safely within the county.
- Ability to perform field work in all types of weather and overcome rough terrain.
