Sierra Nevada VA Medical Center in Reno, NV is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer Professional. The Mechanical Engineer Professional will contribute to the design and construction phase of the construction of the onsite Central Utility Plant (CUP) and decommissioning of the existing CUP.
Related project experience
- Professional electricians must be able to quickly understand and master the requirements of local state and federal jurisdictions and their respective requirements as they relate to this project.
- We have experience in solving unexpected site and design conditions/problems and can provide cost-effective technical solutions.
- Experience conducting inspections and inventories of said structures to identify and document defects, problems, or the overall physical condition of said structures.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
- Six years of experience in mechanical structure inspection is required.
- The ideal candidate should be able to provide three examples of successfully completed projects similar in scope and scale to this task order.
Position Description
- Performs part of the routine inspection of site operations, building construction work, records discrepancies, violations of regulations, improper materials, material application methods, substandard or poor quality work, and monitors the schedule of various aspects of ongoing day-to-day operations to identify and mitigate project delays and coordinate project phasing.
- Maintain accurate and complete files regarding Construction Management (CM) services for the project that can be inspected by the government at any time.
- Review contractor submittals and RFIs, maintain accurate and complete work files including performance drawings and specifications, identify progress delays and recommend appropriate corrective actions to the Chief Engineer to mitigate delays and maintain progress schedule.
- Submit daily, weekly and monthly reports showing work completed, work in progress with estimated completion date, work scheduled and work remaining to be completed.
- Utilizes computerized management system applications for processing information requests, project engineering, scheduling, communications, design evaluation, safety compliance, testing compliance, record keeping, construction management, budget control, change management, construction reporting, and document management control.
Requirements
Required skills and knowledge
- Knowledge of electrical systems, testing and balancing, operation, sheet metal duct systems, and control systems including direct digital control.
- Knowledge of centralized plants such as chillers, boilers, oxygen transport, cooling towers etc.
- Ability to provide cost estimates and costings for mechanical contract modifications.
- Ability to judge compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment and installation activities to contract requirements and industry standards.
- Working knowledge and understanding of building, safety and environmental codes.
- Working knowledge of environmental, civil, safety, architectural and structural fields.
- Knowledge of government contracting procedures, principles, guidelines and public law.
Communication, Language and Software Skills
- Ability to apply computer literacy knowledge to monitor, update and create work products utilizing a variety of software programs.
- Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
Education, qualifications and affiliations
- An ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an institution of higher learning. Minimum six years of experience in both design and construction required.
