The City of Fairburn is seeking an experienced and professional City Engineer. Under general supervision, this position involves complex engineering work including planning, organizing, and coordinating projects such as land development, stormwater management, traffic design, pavement management, street improvements, lighting, facilities, and capital project construction. I will be in charge of Review and approve engineering plans. Report to the Director of Public Works. Employment Range: $91,579.96 – $96,158.96 per year (depending on qualifications) Work Days/Hours: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm. Must be available to respond to emergency calls on weekends, nights, and holidays. Recruitment Starts: November 25, 2024 Recruitment Ends: Until Filled Job Description Under general supervision, this position is responsible for planning projects such as land development, stormwater management, traffic design, pavement management, and street improvements. Essential Job Duties • Plan, organize, and coordinate engineering design, contract preparation and review, and site suitability studies. • Participates in the development of work plans related to engineering functions. Establish appropriate engineering standards for urban infrastructure. • Select, supervise and evaluate the suitability of consultant engineering services. Prepare a request for proposal. Coordinate contract activities and provide technical advice and interpretation as required. •Work closely with the Director of Public Works in the development and implementation of long-term and short-term strategies. •Reviews and approves all capital improvement designs and projects as well as domestic projects. City rights of way, including site inspections and approval of project work from other departments and divisions. • Review site development plans, traffic studies, hydrological reports, and other engineering documents related to private development projects. • Participate in the development of work plans related to the project. Engineering functions. Coordinates project implementation by interacting with various stakeholders and makes recommendations for engineering and project success. • Investigates and responds to inquiries and concerns of contractors, staff, the general public, and other organizational entities. • Complete engineering functions such as project site inspections. , estimate project costs, and manage project progress. • Prepare, approve, evaluate, and maintain related engineering reports and other information, such as specifications, project invoices, proposals, grant applications, permits, and/or both. • Coordinate the city’s SPLOST-funded transportation. • Oversee the City’s monitoring and enforcement of applicable erosion, sedimentation, and pollution control laws. • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those with whom you have business contacts. • Perform other related duties as assigned. . Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, or closely related field, or completion of an Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (ABET) program. Complemented by 5 years of relevant experience in engineering. or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job. License or Certification: Valid Georgia driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle driving record (MVR). CDL license recommended. Must possess and maintain a Georgia Professional Engineer (PE) license. Must possess Soil and Water Level II/Certification. OR Must be obtained within 3 months of hire Special Requirements: An acceptable general background check is required, including local and state criminal background checks and an acceptable driving history. Satisfactory results of pre-employment alcohol and controlled substance testing required. This position is safety-sensitive and is subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
