Depending on the situation, you may be required to work nights, weekends, and overtime. Travel will be required to support the development of convention generation projects. Evergy’s 2024 triennial Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) called for 3,600 MW of new wind and solar generation and 2,445 MW of new conventional generation assets over the next 10 years. Reporting to the Director of Conventional Power Projects, the candidate will have technical responsibility for supporting the development of conventional power projects. This engineer will support conventional power generation projects with a focus on technical responsibility for plant and turbine control systems. In collaboration with project managers and teams of other engineers, engineers support the safe, timely, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible implementation of conventional power generation projects. Project types include conventional power generation, including simple cycle combustion turbines and combined cycle combustion turbines. Candidates also have the opportunity to stay up-to-date with the latest cutting-edge technologies such as thermal storage and small modular nuclear reactors. Projects supported by this engineer can be multi-year, complex, multi-million dollar capital projects spanning a variety of disciplines. This candidate will provide engineering support to the development, construction, and commissioning of steam and combustion turbines. Additionally, it has the ability to troubleshoot control system issues. Education and Experience Requirements: This position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school and at least four years of engineering experience in the design, construction, and/or maintenance of power plant control systems. Applicants must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed. Additional Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Knowledge of GE Mark VIe, Mitsubishi, Emerson Ovation, and/or Siemens T3000 control systems is required. You will be expected to troubleshoot operational issues with plant control systems. OEM certification is preferred. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, have strong interpersonal skills, and have excellent computer skills. Required License or Certificate: Must have a valid driver’s license. A satisfactory work record including good attendance is required. EIT or PE is preferred. Working Conditions: Must have the ability to perform the physical activities of the job. Requires extensive on-site plant work with office work. Ability to work outdoors and in industrial plant environments is required. This includes exposure to extreme ambient temperatures, dusty/humid environments, climbing and descending ladders and stairs, working at heights on high-rise structures and platforms, and occasionally working in confined spaces. but not limited to. May require bending, stooping, or standing. During peak construction and commissioning periods, travel to development sites is expected to occur at least 10% and up to 100%.
