Not everyone has a clear understanding of their contribution to the company. Especially in a large company, it’s easy to get so wrapped up in work that it feels pointless.
Feedback is the most powerful way leaders can make sure that their employees are working towards something great, correct themselves when necessary, and celebrate their work.
The key to successfully motivating employees through feedback is making sure it is meaningful and engaging.
Simple feedback such as “Well done!” It may be valued, but often has little impact on employee motivation.
Attempts at shallow feedback are obvious and do not make employees more productive or continue to deliver great results.
Instead, try to include something like “Well done!” in your feedback. It was great to see the cost savings in the quarter by eliminating unsuitable outsourcing options. “
Please note that feedback does not necessarily have to be positive. Must be constructive. Simply saying that someone is not doing a great job, or that their efforts are insufficient, without explanation, does not solve the underlying problem.
In fact, this can exacerbate the problem, isolating employees and reducing both their work motivation and productivity.
Be careful how you handle employee efforts, both good and bad, to make the best of the situation for both parties.
